A gift code is a one-time pass to Working Memory that someone else paid for. It activates a specific plan (Defrag or Archive) for a specific period (often a year, sometimes forever) on your account.
Where to enter it
In the app, open account settings and find the section labelled "Have a gift code?" Type or paste the code into the field and submit.
If you don't have an account yet, sign up first (a magic link to your email is all it takes — see Signing up and logging in), then redeem from settings.
What the code looks like
Gift codes are twelve characters in the shape WM-XXXX-XXXX — the WM- prefix, then two groups of four letters and digits. They're not case-sensitive (wm-a3x7-k9m2 works the same as WM-A3X7-K9M2), but spaces and other punctuation are not allowed.
What happens when you redeem
- If you don't have a paid plan, the gift activates yours immediately. Your plan tier and end date come from the code.
- If you already have a paid plan, the gift extends it — the days don't go to waste.
- The code is marked redeemed. From that point on, no one else can use it (not even you on a different account).
You'll see a confirmation in the app and your account will show the new plan tier and expiry date.
When redemption fails
A few common messages and what they mean:
- "This code doesn't look right." The code wasn't found in our system. Check for typos — the most common slip-ups are mixing up
0(zero) andO(letter O), or1andI. The shape is alwaysWM-XXXX-XXXX. - "This code has already been redeemed." Someone already used it (possibly you, on this or another account). Gift codes are one-time use only.
- "This code has expired." Unredeemed codes have a shelf life — after that date, they no longer activate. Ask whoever gave it to you for a new one.
How long the gift lasts
It depends on the code. Some gifts are time-limited (30 days, 90 days, a year). Some are permanent. The redemption confirmation tells you which one you got.
When a time-limited gift ends, your account moves to the free tier — your data stays, but you'll be prompted to pick a paid plan to keep capturing.
